Working Force

The unemployment rate in Jamaica is at a whopping 12.9% for 2009, it has gone up 2.3% since 2008. The percentages apply to the total labor force of 1.311 million. Jamaica's rate seems very high; however, compared to the Dominican Republics rate of 15% it seems okay. The Dominican republic is bordering with the country of Haiti whose rate is not being calculated right now due to the natural disaster. These two other countries are only just across a small body of water from Jamaica. This countries unemployment rate compared to the world is 138, but among my five other countries it ranks number two highest unemployed. I mentioned in the previous tabs that there has been a crime escalation, this is mainly due to high unemployment. Due to this countries debt, many jobs have been lost and this is hindering important economic growth! As more crime persists, gang violence is increasing the drug wars in this country.
